the most exciting part of my year is always the Share the Love annual charity fashion show. i love planning it, it is always an adventure and this year is no exception. We are doing a fun show this year, with a concept of urban and neon.

2) Bring your clothes to our house, and put them in designated piles - pants in one corner, onesies in another.

3) Shop around, try on clothes, and take anything that fits or appeals to you.

4) Leave the rest behind, and we'll send it directly to the Dominican Republic staff at International Student Volunteers, who will give it to families and children in need.

so far 2010 has been crazy. my only new year's resolution this year is to be a bit more selfish, because i feel i rarely am. of course, this goes with my style too, and i am planning on wearing really whatever i feel like, buying whatever i feel like, regardless of trends. so far, here is what is on my list to purchase, or what i have already purchased, absolutely love, and think you should buy.

i have:

these Marc Jacobs rainboots are a lifesaver. i LOVE them, they are so fantastic in all this Davis rain, especially after 2 pairs of my once trusty JCrew wellies cracked and are now useless.

after searching for forever for a decent pair of over the knee boots for a non bank breaking price, i finally found this adorable suede slouchy pair, ideal for the chilly nights of bar hopping in the winter. although these are a great option for keeping me warm and are definitely an essential part of my winter wardrobe...i should warn the average girl, they do come with a 5 inch heel, which proves tricky for most.

chunky scarves are so important for cold weather. they honestly make the world of a difference even if you are already bundled in a good coat. i have tons!

my new black trench us also one of the best things i have purchased this season. although mine has shiney mirrored buttons, which at first i didnt like, i now love them because i could be wearing anything uninteresting and then put on the coat and look fabulous.

on my list to buy:

i saw this little chair pendant and fell in love. yes, it is $160 and is just bronze, but i love it! i really really want it. sooo perhaps soon it will be mine.

i realize i own over 300 pairs of shoes, but i saw these in the window at Michael Kors and it is fate. these will be mine in a few short days, i cant wait to add them to my menagerie

i have actually seen a lot of news lately on current hip hop and rap trends looking down upon bling, like the big chains and diamonds and super flashy cars.

i was happy to have articles confirming this, because i had noticed it myself. i think it is a wise decision cuz that way, 'average people' can more easily emulate their favorite artists. the trend is going more towards investment pieces that will last a long time, and items that are far more dressy than the old white tee and huge diamond chains.

this makes me super happy cuz i am loving where the hip hop trends are headed!

although my summer isnt quite over, i have been super busy today working on some great things for the Student Fashion Association! we have a great dedicated group this year and i am excited about it!

as you can see by the lack of dresses of the week, my internship ended a couple of weeks ago so i could get some relaxing in at the end of my summer! still working at Express Men though! in other news, got to assist with a wedding this last weekend and i loved every minute of it! being a wedding planner is potentially in my future!

excited to see the back to school fashions when i head back to davis, but for now, lazying around in my sandals...my stilettos are on hold pretty much until the school year!

ok, so far, this is my absolute favorite...like maybe this is the one, or at least the one right now :)

although its hard to determine "the dress" for me, because i have no intention of getting married anytime soon, but i absolutely love it. its got a lowerish back with beautiful crystal detailing, its lightweight, beautiful chiffon which drapes sooo perfectly, i love it, i really dont want to take it off once i put it on. very comfortable, i feel so great in it, easy to walk around in, to sit in, it's just so effortlessly fantastic.

got this dress in really recently so i just had to try it on. i am in love with the top and the corset back, the fabric of the top is folded very flattering, and i love the crystal detailing. this dress is super comfortable, and i really enjoy the bottom of the dress, although i dont feel its super flattering to my figure, i think maybe if it were a drop waist gown it would be more flattering on me, but i know it will look fabulous on some of the tinier brides!

i love this dress because its super flattering and really accentuates my curves in a good way, and its a corset back which i love. also, its versatile, you can wear it as a strapless or a halter. the only thing i don't absolutely love is the bubble hem, but a great seamstress could fix that right up if you aren't a fan of it either. otherwise, its gorgeous, timeless and flattering for most figures and also is really comfortable. it has great details without being over the top, very classic gown

wow this has gone on far too long, but with all the moving at the store (now on 719 Main Street!) it's taken longer than usual to post, so i am going to be putting many up today!

this first dress is the Allure Bailey which retails for $1100. it caught my eye because of the beautiful detailing on the bodice, really pretty embroidered flowers! then when i put it on, i loved it even more because it is really lightweight and extremely easy to move around in, not what you would expect for all the volume it appears to have. overall its a super comfortable beautiful dress with a lot of great detail.

TIZ: The Imaginary Zebra

I first learned about The Imaginary Zebra when we were going to add them into our fashion show in 2008. They ended up making the show with not only the great designs but the multiple talents that they pulled into it all, showing that it wasnt just fashion, it was life too. I had seen the zebra shirts around but never knew the story behind it. now luckily, i got some insight from the creator, Benson Chou, Davis 4th year, so he could share the story behind those cool zebra shirts that so many students sport on campus.

how and why did you start TIZ?

My family has always been quite an artistic influence, which got me into making random kinds of art projects, but the emergence of the clothing line all started in my high school years when one thing led to another. First, it was my first encounter with graffiti. The play of interaction with type faces and colors were fascinating. I made my first custom trucker hat and earned myself 15 bucks during sophomore year. Never felt this great knowing something I made actually earned a few lunch meals.

Then, I started "Urban Art Club", a school club that taught students how to graffiti and merge graffiti with modern art styles. The club then made banners for school plays, posters for clubs, and shirts for different club members. It was my first step into the t-shirt manufacture scene. In the mean time, I formed a graffiti crew called "TIZ", which I only named it that way because I thought the letters look cool when I put them together, it was not an abbreviation of anything. Next thing I know, I graduated. High school was fun and the club/crew slowly died down, college was suppose to be all types of serious (or so I believed). I was wrong, college was better than ever- more freedom, more people, more ideas. That was when I realized that the club and the design shouldn't have stopped just because of my transition to college. Therefore, I brought back TIZ in more professional manner - a clothing line, in 2006, my freshmen year in college.

did you encounter any problems when starting?

Getting the name out there was difficult, the clothing line started off really slowly. Due to the small amount of demand, I couldn't afford any printer to print the shirts, so I had to hand print the first batch of tees with a few friends. It was tedious.

do you consider TIZ a lifestyle brand? if so, how?

Sure, t-shirts are considered a lifestyle fashion medium, yea?

what do you suggest to pair with a TIZ tee?

Either something simple to bring out the Tee, or layers to make the tee complementing of the whole outfit. I try making the TIZ shirts quite resilient.

what was your inspiration?

My family's always been artsy oriented. They got me into graphic designs. Then I started having more contacts with street brands and clothing. Some of my major inspirations are Obey, Ecko, Nike, Stussy, Johnny Cupcakes, A Bathing Ape, and Uniqlo.

do you have any advice for someone starting a business?

People tell you to follow what you're passionate about, but they'd never tell you how bad it'd suck knowing that the only thing you've focused on have failed you. But hey, it'll be fun while it lasted. Be optimistic, it will keep you going no matter what happens.

does owning a business at the same time as being a college student make things harder?

It's almost as hard as tying your shoelace with only one hand. Finding a sense of balance is essential. I tend to lean towards TIZ from time to time, but good thing I have a good set of tools to pull me back - my parents.

what is your favorite:

food?Junks.

music?Depends on the situation. Mainly R & B.

magazines?Wired. Idn. Now I usually marinate myself in RSS feeds of many different sites. brand of jeans?Levi's

dress of the week, week three

so i have to be honest, i first tried on the new Maggie Sottero SaBelle because it was such an enormous dress i just had to put it on. its super heavy, maybe 15 to 20 pounds? well however heavy it is, it broke a thick plastic hanger the first time we tried to hang it up.

but once i got it on, i loved it. super roomy underneath, (hence the width of the bottom of the dress) which is oddly refreshing compared to feeling the layers of fabric. and the weight of the dress wasnt an issue either, like i thought it might be, but since it is a corset back, it kinda holds itself up.

cool factors: the flowers are handmade and the straps are detachable

how and why did you start Yeoman? did you encounter any problems?

I started Yeoman because I thought fashion was not going green enough fast enough, so my brother, my dad, and I are trying to push it there. the biggest problem for us was going local with our manufacturing. We manufacture all the tee shirts in San Francisco, and right now, apparel manufacturing in SF is very small and is not used for tee shirts, so we had to spend many hours investigating where we can get our tees made.

do you consider Yeoman a lifestyle brand? if so, how?

Yeoman is truly a lifestyle brand because the word yeoman means to be tenacious in a worthy endeavor and to succeed. So we work as hard as we can to bring organics into mainstream. And our customers share our passion. Our customers are environmentally conscious, and defenders of human rights. They are also creative and unique and work hard at their own worthy endeavors with hopes of success.

why did you choose to be organic?how organic are you?

We are organic because we want to do our part in becoming a sustainable nation. We are using GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic yarn, one of the highest organic certifications. We take the fabric that is manufactured in Los Angeles, and make the tee shirts in San Francisco to lower our environmental impact and to support the local economy. We also only use water-based dyes for our screen printing to lessen our impact. We are striving to be the greenest and most ethical garment manufacturer out there.

do you try to stay organic in your everyday life?

Every day I try to keep it organic. If I'm not wearing an organic tee shirt, I'm trying to eat and drink organic foods and beverages. Just the other day I bought a vegetable and fruit basket from a local farmers' cooperative that delivers weekly with only organic fruits. I also love going to the Davis Co-Op, and the farmer's market. As they say, I'm in it to win it. And so is my whole family, we're all trying to go organic and live more green. We're just looking for ways to become a little more sustainable in our every day lives

what do you suggest to pair with a Yeoman tee?

My favorite thing to wear with a Yeoman's Swirl print shirt are a pair of gray Elwood organic shorts and my flip-flops. Yeoman goes with pretty much everything, though. If you like to go to the pool, our swirl shirt can be worn with board shorts. And if you are feeling like showing your unique and environmental side, at a club, Yeoman looks great when worn with some Seven for all Mankind jeans

My family inspired me to start Yeoman. From my grandparents' lives that epitomized indomitable wills to my parents who believe that doing what a person loves is more important than making money. Finally, my brother and sisters stories continue to inspire me every day.

My advice for people who want to start their own business is: don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.Being in college and a businessman to me is ideal. I love to be busy where every part of my day I’m doing something. It is definitely harder than the other years in college when I didn’t have this business and could just focus on school, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

when did you get into modeling?
I was scouted out of a bar in Iowa City (University of Iowa) in April, 1999. I was 19 years old, finishing my first year at school. I did my first photo shoot with actor Brandon Routh, who was starting out at the same time.

do you like print or runway work better?
That's a tough one...I like the thrill of runway shows since there's so much energy surrounding the show. But, I think I like print more because I like seeing how things turned out and it is a really cool feeling to open a magazine and see your face!

what was your favorite runway or photoshoot?
Favorite runway show was Antonio Marras' first menswear show in Summer 2002. It was in an old castle in Florence, and they bussed all of the models and attendees to the castle - what an amazing view of the Tuscan hills!
Favorite photoshoot was for Elle Italia. We shot in Torino, and it was just a cool shoot!

are you with an agency or do you find jobs on your own?
I am with an agency - Look Models in San Francisco. When I was working "full time" as a model, I had agencies in all the markets in Europe I wanted to work in, plus my NY agency.

is it hard to balance modeling with school?
Yes, it is challenging! There are times when the client wants to see you that you simply have to say "no, I have class" - most of the time the agency knows my schedule, but there are times I have to be flexible and work with them...it is all about flexibility!

do you have any tips for college students who want to get into modeling?
Know your boundaries, and don't buy all the hype from TV! Be cool and down to earth, and people will want to work with you!

what is your favorite:

magazines? I like the "artsy" fashion magazines - none specifically, but just the ones with the nice, glossy editorials

In Davis, CA?! T shirt and jeans...but anywhere else I try to put myself together a bit more and wear either my custom shirts or polos. I love wearing a nice suit, but don't have the opportunity to do so often enough.

ok, so i have decided my favourite thing in the whole world is customizing shoes, because i love shoes soooo much and to be able to pick my own colors and all that is crazy exciting. a long time ago, i went to the SF Nike store and designed a pair, but sadly was under a time constraint and couldn't get them. this summer, my goal is to go back. now that i have a paid summer internship, i have more disposable income than i planned on, so perhaps i will get a whole fleet of customized sneakers! this is the pair that i like the best so far....

a couple days ago, my friend interviewed me for an article she wrote on Black White and Green:

The Black, White, and Green Ball---Celebrating our Seniors! With the beginning of each academic year there is a complementary end that concludes our efforts and devotion to our academic endeavors here at UC Davis. For the students graduating, this year has special significance and marks the end of their undergraduate experience and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. To commemorate and recognize those students that have worked hard to earn their degrees as Textiles & Clothing Majors and the staff that have made these achievements possible, the Division of Textiles and Clothing has chosen to devote June 5th, 2009 as the Black, White, and Green Ball.
This annual event is financially sponsored by the Student Fashion Association (SFA) and organized by the Event Planning class that meets weekly to make this event possible. Ashley Carros, president of SFA and a member of the Event Planning class, took some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions about this year’s special event and what we can expect to see!

Q: What is the Black, White, and Green Ball (main objective of the event)?
A: The main reason why we have a Black, White and Green Ball is to honor and say goodbye to the TXC seniors and graduate students. It is also a fun end-of-the-year event for everyone to get together and mingle with the other students and faculty to see what we all did during the year. Also, it is just fun to dress up!

Q: How will this Black, White, and Green Ball be different from last year?
A: First of all, the name: Black White and Pink is now Black White and Green. Not only has the color palette changed, but we are also being sustainable. Instead of using plastic cups and forks, members of the class are bringing them. We will be reusing the plastic plates and will have a bag for extra food that isn’t eaten to take to compost. Since the theme will be “A Garden Party,” we are also planning to have glass jars, like spaghetti jars and such, filled with flowers. We are also encouraging people to create, borrow, or re-wear something instead of going to buy a new outfit.

Q: What are some exciting things people can expect to see, hear, and participate in while at the event?
A: We are planning to have a raffle for everyone, with one free ticket given upon entering so everyone will have a possibility of winning. We will have speakers, everything from seniors recounting favorite moments to the rose ceremony for seniors. Also, the Power Point Presentation is a fun feature because we get to look back on everything done throughout the year. It should be a lot of fun so I wouldn’t miss out!

Q: Is there a specific theme for this year’s event and how has decorating and planning for the event gone?
A: This year is Black White and Green: A Garden Party. We are planning to get many flowers and greenery to make the Everson Courtyard look like a beautiful garden!

Overall, the Planning Class has been doing an excellent job of putting together and planning this special event. so, this is my first entry and odds are it wont be very exciting. eventually, i am hoping to achieve greatness just like two favourites Marcus Troy and Bryanboy, but for now, i am just going to let anyone who happens to stumble upon this know what is to come (hopefully, fingers crossed!)

goals for this blog project:

anything i find in fashion that i love!
pictures of college students who have great fashion sense on campus, yes they do exist!
updates on fashionable events going on around campus and the world around me
fashion related happenings in general and how they effect my life

ok, so that is it so far! i will let everyone know if i drastically change some things, but so far, i think these are the main topics i will be blogging about.
